Painting is my meditative escape, a mental vacation, the feeling you get when you are taking a drive down an empty scenic road with the music blasting and the wind blowing through your hair. It takes me out of myself and transports me to this place I call the painting zone where all other thoughts are blocked out. My spirit is flowing, my mind is one with colors, lines, curves, textures and shapes taking on new shapes.
My hands are often stained with paint. I have paint on almost every piece of clothing. Art is everywhere in my house. Art is also in the way I view life and people. I see some form of art in everyone and everything, be it light or dark, subtle or bold, quiet or loud, bitter or sweet.
My abstract collection is an expression of my creative visions born and reborn varying in size, style and medium. I am continuously experimenting. My work ranges from acrylic on canvas, to concentrated watercolor on paper, to alcohol ink on yupo to mixing mediums. I often mix various chemicals with paint from Silicone and WD40 to Glue and Isopropyl Alcohol. I like using tools to make paint move, flow and change appearance. Some of those tools are straws, a blow dryer, a heatgun, an air compressor and a butane torch.
My purposes for creating vary. I view making intuitive art as a spiritual gift, a state of prayer and meditation, a channeling of energy from the other side. I am also inspired by God’s creation; colorful images and feelings gained from the planets four elements of earth, wind, water and fire that appear in conceptual form in my art. Painting allows me to feel spiritually connected. I sometimes begin with a plan but to imitate life, my art never turns out how I preconceived it. I am grateful for many accidents turned into beautifully intriguing surprises.
Women artists and the female experience are a strong influence in my work. I produce vibrant abstract images of faces, women with intense depth, strong emotions, life experience, and soul. Each painting defines a time or experience I have shared or witnessed. The most powerful feature is the eyes because they are a magnetic source that transmit energy and a range of messages.
Although I love the creative process just as much as the end result, I have moments where the paint seems to be uncooperative and turns to some shade or puddle of unwanted gray, mauve or brown. Sometimes I am generating one amazing piece after the next and then there are weeks where I lose my paint mojo. Similar to life - the artistic process is never smooth sailing. There are always some potholes to hit, a flat tire, a breakdown or a crash to be survived. Painter’s block, artistic mishaps, and challenges force me to stretch, learn, grow and have faith. Struggle teaches me to persevere, to use it all for good, to be a resilient warrior of sorts and make even more soulful art.
Sharing your art is so essential to any artist. Here I share with you some of my creations for you to enjoy, connect to, reflect on, or get inspired from. May you be blessed on your own journey of the creative life you live.
